The Lip Piercing
The Lip Piercing is more commonly made under the bottom lip although some people prefer the look of the upper lip piercing. The piercing can also be placed exactly halfway along the length of the lip or, more commonly, to one end of the mouth.
Healing Time
The healing time for the Lip Piercing varies greatly from person to person but is usually around 8-12 weeks.
Lip Jewellery
Jewellery that is appropriate for the Lip piercing includes Bead rings, Continuous rings or Labret studs. Bead rings are a popular choice of jewellery for the initial piercing as they make it easy to clean the piercing and will allow for swelling (which is common temporary side effect caused by the lip piercing.)
It is very important that whatever jewellery is chosen that it not rub away at your teeth or gums!!
The type of the jewellery you choose plays a big part in the healing process so make sure you always get pierced with top quality jewellery.
Once your piercing has fully healed you can change your jewellery whenever you wish. But to avoid complications you should always wear good quality body jewellery of appropriate size and thickness. There is a huge range of Body Jewellery available at Adrenalin such as: Curved, Circular or Straight Barbells; 18ct Gold jewellery; Continuous rings; Anodised or Blackened Niobium rings;Custom-made Jewellery or you can just change the bead on your existing bead ring.

The Labret Piercing
The Labret Piercing is made under the bottom lip and exactly halfway along the length of the lip. It can be place either just under the lip line or often down lower i.e. approx 10mm down below lip which is a more common placement.
Healing Time
The Healing time for the Labret piercing varies greatly from person to person but is usually around 10-12 weeks.
Labret Jewellery
Jewellery that is appropriate for the Labret piercing includes Labret studs, Fishtails, Bead rings and Continuous rings.
The Labret stud if chosen for the initial piercing will need to be longer then the length of the piercing to allow for swelling and to assist with the cleaning process. You may wish to downsize the length of the stud a bit after the piercing has fully healed.
Fishtails are similar to a Labret studs on the outside but they have a curved tail which sits flush against the inside of your lip. The fishtail if chosen for the initial piercing will need to be longer then the length of the piercing to allow for swelling and to assist with the cleaning process. Fishtails can be adjusted for length and shape once the piercing has healed and swelling gone down. Fishtails are a popular choice but need to be shaped exactly so they sit comfortably and securely in your mouth and piercing. It is very important that whatever jewellery is chosen that it not rub away at your teeth or gums!!
Bead rings are very good as they allow for easy cleaning and also for swelling, but can get knocked around a bit more, and possibly aggravating the piercing.
Continuous rings are not as good as a bead ring as the join in the ring can be accidentally rotated around and into the piercing, which may aggravate the piercing and/or take bacteria into it. However, they still allow for easy cleaning and also allow for swelling but, like bead rings, they can get knocked around a bit more, and possibly aggravating the piercing. Continous rings are ok once the piercing has fully healed.
