The Prince Albert Piercing

~

The Prince Albert Piercing is the most popular Male genital piercing at ADRENALIN Body Piercing. The piercing looks good and increases erotic stimulation when the ring moves or rotates through the urethra. The Prince Albert ring goes down the urethra and comes out behind the Glans on the underside of the Penis (near where the Glans join the shaft). It is also done off to one side of the centre web of skin. Some people have had two Prince Albert piercings, but this may cause pinching of the skin between the piercings during sex, if both rings are left in place during sex.

History behind the Prince Albert Piercing

The Prince Albert Piercing , also known in the Victorian days as a "Dressing Ring", was apparently designed to strap the penis tightly against the leg to minimize the bulge caused by the penis when wearing the very tight trousers which were fashionable at that time. As the rumor goes, Prince Albert wore one of these "Dressing Rings" to hold back his foreskin so to keep his member sweet-smelling so as not to offend the Queen.

Healing Time

The healing time for the Prince Albert Piercing varies between people but is usually around 4-6 weeks, however they will take some extra time to "toughen up". Be gently with your new piercing, keep it clean and if you choose to have sex with it in place make sure that the jewellery is sturdy enough to cope with it and be sure to wear a condom to avoid infections. Make sure your piercer gives you detailed "Aftercare" instructions on exactly how to care for your new piercings. This can make a huge difference to whether your piercing will heal up quickly and stay where positioned or to not heal and migrate through the skin. Your own urine is sterile to your body so don't worry if you have to urinate just after you have cleaned the piercing, it may actually be beneficial (to urinate after cleaning) as it will help rinse away any aftercare solution that may be still in the urethra.

Prince Albert Jewellery

The most popular jewellery for the new Prince Albert Piercing is the Surgical Steel Circular Barbell. This type of jewellery will enable easy cleaning of the piercing as it has no irregular edges or joins in the ring that can be rotated accidentally through the piercing. Any irregular surface on your jewellery can carry bacteria or aggravate the piercing when the jewellery is rotated during cleaning. The Circular Barbell is quite a secure and strong choice as one of the beads needs to be unscrewed to enable the ring to be remove. Make sure you keep an eye on the tightness of both balls of the circular barbell to ensure the balls don't loosen and unscrew. If you choose a "single bead" Bead Ring for your Prince Albert Piercing make sure the bead is not one that can break down when it comes in contact with urine and body fluids and that it is sturdy enought not to flex enough to lose the bead out of the ring. Your piercer should be able to advise you of what beads are safe.

Stretching the piercing to accommodate a thicker gauge ring is also advisable and safer as the thicker jewellery should not aggravate or tear your piercing during sex. Thicker CBR jewellery is also safer as the ring will be much stiffer and will reduce the chance of the ring flexing and losing the bead. (You really don't want this to happen during sex!!).

Circular Barbells or Curved Barbells are a safer jewellery to wear if you intend to have sex with the jewellery in place. This type of jewellery has two balls on it, one of these balls is usually fixed and the other can be unscrewed for installation and firmly tighten to avoid the risk of the jewellery coming apart during sex. Circular Barbells however are more expensive then Bead Rings but it is you and your partners well being that's important.

The type of the jewellery you choose plays a big part in the healing process so make sure you always get pierced with top quality jewellery of appropriate size, make sure the ring diameter is large enough when the penis is erect! If the wrong size or thickness of jewellery is used it can greatly increase the chance of the ring migrating through or tearing the skin.

Many people like to wear thick jewellery in the Prince Albert Piercing. If you desire, and your piercing has fully healed we can assist you in painlessly stretching up your piercing to accommodate thicker gauge jewellery.

Once your piercing has fully healed you can change your jewellery whenever you wish. But to avoid complications you should always wear good quality body jewellery of appropriate size and thickness. Stretching up to thicker jewellery is a good idea but going down to a smaller thickness is not a good idea as the piercing can shrink down to the new thin size and be more prone to aggravation or tearing. There is a huge range of Body Jewellery available at Adrenalin made from materials such as: Titanium, Surgical Steel, 18ct Gold, Anodised or Blackened Niobium.
